Liquefied petroleum gas or LP gas is also routinely called propane gas or butane gas. This gas is filled into a small and lightweight cylinder (bombe), and used as a fuel for household, business and industry, and also vehicles
The use of LPG originated from the use of propane and butane, which are separated when methane and natural gasoline are extracted from wet natural gas or oil well gas in the United States. Today, propane, propylene, butane and butylene are also separated and purified from low molecular weight hydrocarbons produced together in the petrochemical ethylene plant, and marketed as LPG.
